ALL ABOUT: THE QUEEN RED BEAN

Here’s everything you need to know about the Queen Red Bean – from what they taste like and where they come from, to their nutritional powers + the MOST DELICIOUS ways to cook with them. Whether you're looking to level up your chilli con carne, find new ways to enjoy red beans, boost your polyphenol intake or just fall in love with a truly BEAUTIFUL bean – this guide is for you.

The Lowdown

Creamy, HUGE and a little nutty – our Queen Red Beans have such a velvety texture that’s hard to beat (and unlike any you've eaten from a tin before). A bit larger in size than a cannellini bean, and with a bit more bite than a Queen butter bean, they have tender skins with such a creamy interior and like with our entire range, we encourage you to eat these beans STRAIGHT FROM THE JAR to fully appreciate them in their FULL GLORY.

Red beans are actually one of the most versatile beans around! Not firm or chalky in the slightest, they’re best enjoyed whole so you can really savour their richness. That vibrant reddish-purple colour is thanks to polyphenols, the powerful antioxidants also found in berries and other deeply coloured foods. These compounds don’t just make red beans pretty; they’re brilliant for your health, too. Eating more polyphenols helps protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals (unstable molecules that can contribute to ageing and disease).

Their mellow flavour and pillowy softness mean they’re perfect for soaking up rich comforting sauces AND bangin salads too – whether that’s a slow-cooked chilli we know ya love, a smoky chorizo stew or even thrown into a zesty halloumi salad. Once you try them, they’ll be a staple in your cupboards for good.

QUEEN BEANS

Where They Come From

Our Queen Red Beans are harvested at the end of August, grown in the lush soils of Argentina and the USA, where the climate is ideal for developing their creamy flavour and Queen size.

Once they arrive at our factory in Spain, they’re packed into jars with just water and a pinch of salt, then slow-cooked inside the jars to lock in their natural flavour and keep that beautiful skin intact.

No additives. No shortcuts. Just a perfect, ready-to-eat bean that works straight from the jar.

QUEEN BEANS

How we cook them

Once they reach our factories in Spain, they get poured into glass jars with just water + a pinch of salt. They are then cooked in the jars in a giant pressure cooker, and cooked low + slow. This method locks in flavour, keeps the skins intact, and gives you a bean that’s creamy, tender, and perfect to eat STRAIGHT FROM THE JAR. It also gives you that luscious, creamy “bean stock” - aka, the liquid in the jar. We season our beans throughout the cooking process like proper chefs do! Their natural flavour is then enhanced in a way you simply CAN'T replicate after.

Bog standard supermarket beans are heated up quickly, to a SUPER high temp, losing the banging beany flavour along the way.

We NEVER add anything artificial. No preservatives, no weird sulphites, just what you’d use at home: beans, water + salt.

BUT WAIT – ARE RED BEANS POISONOUS?

Let’s clear up the confusion: ALL raw beans contain lectins, a natural protein found in many plants that can make us ill if consumed in large quantities when undercooked.

But here’s the deal:

All lectins are destroyed when beans are cooked at 100°C for just 10 minutes. Our beans are cooked for over 30 minutes at that temperature – meaning you can eat them straight from the jar with complete confidence!

So yes – raw red beans need proper cooking if you're starting from scratch. But our Queen Red Beans? Already cooked to perfection. No stress, no soaking needed. Just delicious, CREAMY, ready-to-eat beans.

HOW TO USE THEM – BEANSPO!

(That’s bean-inspiration, if you’re new here)

Their firm yet creamy texture makes them perfect for all sorts of dishes – from warming chillis to smoky bean bowls and even summer salads. Start by throwing them into your next pasta sauce or hearty stew for a boost of antioxidants.

Are they good for you?

ABSO-BEANY-LUTELY. Like all of our beans, red beans are a nutritional powerhouse!

Per 100g, they offer around:

  • Protein: ~8g
  • Fibre: ~6g
  • Calories: ~125 kcal
  • Iron: ~2mg
  • Polyphenols: Off the charts (ok, not literally – but they’re one of the best bean sources out there)

They’re packed with fibre, slow-release carbs (great for our blood sugar), and plant protein to keep you feeling full and energised all afternoon. Add to that their boost of polyphenols + you’ve got a bean that does as much for your body as it does for your tastebuds!
